When he stopped beside the bed, she wasn’t sure what to expect. It wasn’t his hands cupping her face gently—oh, so gently, as though she were fragile, and priceless. It wasn’t his mouth coming down and hovering close enough for them to breathe in each other’s unsteady breaths. It wasn’t the faintest brushing of his lips over her still-tender ones.

And it surely wasn’t his whispered, “I do love you, Miranda. You should know that.”

Although they sounded like the final words of a condemned man, his confession filled her with joy.

“Oh God, Tim.” Blinking back tears, she laid her trembling hands on his chest, touching that crisp auburn hair for the first time. “I love you too. You know I do.”

He snared her mouth in a ravenous kiss, nipping at her lips, sucking at them, and even though she wanted to know more, it wasn’t in her to pull away from him now. She hugged his cool, naked body to hers, leaning into him, touching his skin everywhere she could while he explored her mouth with a thoroughness that left her breathless.

Then somehow they were on the bed in a writhing tangle of arms and legs, still locked in a white-hot kiss. Miranda could feel the thick length of his hardening cock between their bellies and she wanted him in her now, now, now, but Tim resisted. Seizing her grappling hands, he pinned them to the mattress beside her head and dragged his damp, hot lips down her neck. The feel of his weight restraining her movements was as maddening as it was heavenly.
